About me
My story
Professor, Scholar, Author, Researcher, Public Speaker
I was born by the river, in a little tent – ok not quite. However, I did start my professional career working on managing river basins with the Army Corps of Engineers on projects ranging from water supply management to flood control. I returned to UVA after working for 5 years and earned an MBA from the Darden School. I then earned a PhD from Duke University with a focus on Operations Management and Operations Research.
I have worked as an Academic Scholar ever since, having created 2 books, dozens of publications, and dozens of graduate level courses for MS, MBA, and PHD programs. I have also consulted on dozens of health care improvement projects, delivered hundreds of research presentations, and thousands of course lectures. (See document library.)
In addition, I have created and managed Graduate programs in Risk Management and Analytics and served with the Armstrong Institute on Patient Safety and Quality at Johns Hopkins.
I am currently an active Toastmaster and the Chief Contest Judge for District 50 in that organization. In addition, I have spoken professionally at various locations and events.
This site will focus on my thoughts/insights related to Healthcare Process Improvement, Public Speaking, and (Mostly) Personal Finance. In addition, I am quickly approaching retirement and remain on the lookout for the next chapter. Stay tuned!
